Bourton Half - 2nd July 2023
ROBINSON MAKES IT A DOUBLE!
Ben Robinson of Bristol & West AC was the clear winner at the Bourton Half Marathon on Sunday morning, organised by Bourton Roadrunners Club as part of its three-race charitable fund raising series. The race was part of the Gloucestershire AAA Road Race series and was also the County half marathon championship.
Robinson led the race from start and despite the hilly challenges, with the route taking the runners from Greystones Nature Reserve in Bourton on the Water, through the villages of Farmington, Sherborne and Clapton on the Hill, before returning to Bourton. He stunned the crowds and other runners by completing the 13.1 miles in a brilliant 70 minutes and 59 seconds. No stranger to Bourton, Robinson had previously treated the locals to a dramatic win at the Bourton Mile in May this year. Will he return in February for the Bourton 10k to claim his hat-trick?
Joe Willgoss of CLC Striders was second (76:19) and Max Thompson of Cheltenham & County Harriers third (79:09). Bourton Roadrunners’ Danny Hannig knocked nearly a minutes from his PB, finishing fifth overall, in a blistering 81:06 - congratulations to Danny.
The first woman was Jane Fairbairn of Cheltenham & County Harriers in 94 minutes and 9 seconds, with Fleur Peoples an unattached runner second (94:23) and Joanna Musk of Cirencester AC third (96:05). Bourton’s Liz Hulcup accompanied the tail-runner around course but was still able to win second in her age category for Gloucestershire AAA Championships.
Gloucester AC won the men's team prize and Running Somewhere Else the women's prize. The full race result is available to download.
