Race to the King 100K - 15th June 2024

Just three days later, Bourton’s Ultra runner Claire Cox also took part in the Race to the King 100Km, representing her main race target for the year. Held over the challenging South Downs Way and National Park, this type of event requires a serious approach to training and a special mental attitude. Adopting the motto of “being her own hero” carried Claire through the difficult moments, giving her a real buzz as she finished fifth women, in a time of 12 hours and 11 minutes, albeit with lots of aching parts.

Cheltenham Running Festival - 16th June 2024

This year’s Cheltenham Running Festival took place this weekend, offering distance options of half marathon, 10Km, 5Km and a fun run. Thankfully, none of the events involved tackling the fences or water-jumps.

Bourton’s veteran runner John Harding celebrated Fathers’ Day running the 10Km event with his son and daughter, finishing in a respectable 59 minutes and 21 seconds, just four days after completing the Cirencester Summer Sizzler.

Running in the 5Km event was Dougal Hamilton-Smith, who finished 11th overall in a time 20 minutes and 29 seconds.

Meanwhile, Claire Carroll opted for the Fun Run, dressed as Winston Bear in aid of Winston’s Wish, and was accompanied by Louise Hamilton-Smith. Despite being last, the pair completed the course together in 13 minutes and 11 seconds.
