Run Pendock - 17th March 2024

Bourton Roadrunners were out in force this weekend at a range of events, including Run Pendock, which featured 10Km, 5Km and 1Km options, with the 10Km forming part of the club’s own competition series. The two longer races both featured road and off-road elements, with copious helpings of mud to contend with, in addition to a couple of hills thrown-in for good measure.

Five club members opted for the 5Km race, with Bourton junior Edward Hare finishing first overall in a stunning time of 20 minutes and 57 seconds, while junior Pippa Krzywiec was the first female to complete the challenging course, 6th place overall, in a time of 24:48. Margaret Hollamby was first Senior Woman (and LV65/1) in 29:22. Husband and wife Patrick and Julie Smith, who joined the club through the club’s Couch-to-5K program, ran together and finished in 39:55 and 39:56 respectively.

Twenty-one club members took on the 10Km race, which certainly tested endurance and the ability to remain upright at some points. Tim Carter led the club home finishing 7th overall in 42:26. Next to finish was Dougal Hamilton-Smith in 47:46 (MU18/2), managing to stay in front of Derek Darby, who achieved 49:16. Bourton’s Rebecca Townsend finished 1st Senior Woman in a time of 50:28.

Other Bourton runners included Claire Cox (55:32), Ian Tolfts (56:13), Graham Lane (57:19), Barry O’Leary (58:59), Iain Cox (59:46), Giles Canning (61:16), Viv D’Alton (63:20), Gill Carrick (64:45 - LV65/1), Louise Townsend (70:50), John Gibson (71:10), Noelle Morgan (71:12), Louise Hamilton-Smith (71:38), Allie Quinn (78:01), Samantha Mellor (78:02), Val McKay (78:25), Imogen Cox (79:04) and Jenny Evanson (82:11).

Bath Half Marathon - 17th March 2024

Jaq Underwood and Claire Carroll decided that Bath Half Marathon, one of the county’s highly respected races, was more their thing. Jaq completed the 13.1 mile course in one hour, 48 minutes and 23 seconds, and Claire in 2:17:29.

The Big Cheese - 17th March 2024

Kevin Goodwill always enjoys a race with a difference and this weekend it was The Big Cheese at Cheddar, Somerset, providing a 15 mile off-road fell race across the Mendip Hills, incorporating 2000 feet of ascent. Kevin achieved a time of 2:32:33; no wonder he was wearing his medal with pride afterwards.

The Grizzly - 17th March 2024

It was clearly a weekend where multi-terrain events captured the imagination of club members. For Susan Hunt this meant The Grizzly; a 20 mile challenge taking in the glorious East Devon coastline and countryside, with more than 3000 feet of ascent over the 20 mile route. Incorporating two pebbled beach sections covering a mile, plus two energy-sapping waist-high bogs, Susan did brilliantly to finish in five hours, 16 minutes and 26 seconds.
