Florence Marathon - 24th November 2024
Bourton Roadrunners’ Susan Hunt and Linda Edwards are both well-travelled and seasoned marathon runners and this week, having battled to overcome the recent effects of illness, they ventured to the beautiful city of Florence in Italy, to celebrate the 40th anniversary of its popular Florence Marathon.
The intrepid pair soaked-up the timeless beauty and history of the ancient city, entering the final 5Km along the banks of the river Arno to the Piazza del Duomo, negotiating the sharp turns and tricky cobbled-streets, faster than the previous 5Km, and delivering their fastest marathon for the year.
Susan finished in four hours, 11 minutes and 7 seconds, while Linda was home in four hours, 30 minutes and 32 seconds.
Eynsham 10K - 24th November 2024
Meanwhile, nearer to home, Bourton veteran runner Tony Goodwill had decided that his final race for the season would be at the ever-popular Eynsham 10K, which always provides a competitive field, with the best runners from Oxfordshire and the surrounding counties. Tony battled through the wind and rain, demonstrating his dedication and strength, completing the two-lap course in a very respectable time of 52 minutes and 49 seconds.
Skipton Santa Fun Run - 24th November 2024
Also this weekend, over 2000 runners celebrated the forthcoming festive season early, when they took to the streets around Skipton in Yorkshire for the Skipton Santa Fun Run.
This annual charity 5K event, which takes in Aireville Park and Skipton Woods, is proud of its long history of accessibility and charitable support, and Bourton’s Jo Cooper and Ian Tolfts were right there in the midst of this fun event, suitably attired, enjoying the atmosphere.
Parkrun - 23rd November 2024
Of course no weekend would be complete without parkrun and this week was no exception, with Bourton Roadrunners out is support at the following venues:
Cape Pembroke Lighthouse: Claire Louise Carroll - 28:11 (1st female overall and VW60/1).
Evesham: Alex Wilson - 29:23 (VM60/3).
Mura di Lucca, Italy: Susan Hunt - 29:45 (VW55/1), Linda Edwards - 29:52 (VW60/1).
Newbury: Eva Shoemark - 24:47 (SW25/1).
Witney: Liz Hulcup - 31:06 (VW70/1), Louise Hamilton-Smith - 31:06.
