Boddington 10 - 28th January 2024
Sunday morning saw the inaugural Boddington 10 mile race, hosted by CLC Striders Running Club; the second event of this year’s Gloucestershire AAA Road Race series. This race lived up to expectations, having sold-out weeks ago and with the first 22 runners completing the flat four-lap course in under the hour.
The first of Bourton Roadrunners’ 16 participants, eagerly looking for County Series points, was Darren Long, who looked strong finishing in one hour, four minutes and 42 seconds. Not far behind, and fresh from last week’s Linda Franks 5, was Kevin Goodwill in a fine 1:12:52.
Bourton’s first two women worked well together to wear-down the miles, with veteran Jaq Underwood just nosing ahead of Lisa Braid on the finish line in 1:24:07 and 1:24:08 respectively; brilliant performances by both. Liz Hulcup ran with second-claim member Linda Edwards (of RSE, Cirencester), finishing in 1:34:02, with Liz achieving second in the LV65 category.
Other Bourton Roadrunners comprised Viv D'Alton (1:32:01 - PB), Louise Hamilton-Smith (1:40:07), Tom Knight (1:40:14), Janice Townsend (1:43:54), Gillian James (1:44:01), Val McKay (1:53:26), Alison Quinn (1:55:08), Shirley Creed (2:01:12), Jeanette Brew (2:01:13) and Jenny Evanson (2:08:38 – PB). Everyone was well supported by the marshals and fellow club members spectating; a great event.
