Warwick Half Marathon - 4th February 2024
This year’s running events are now well underway, and a group from Bourton Roadrunners decided to test their fitness this weekend at the Warwick Half Marathon. Starting from the iconic race course, the runners were under starter’s orders at 9am. Peter Carrick led the club home, completing the undulating 13.1 mile course in a new PB of one hour, 27 minutes and 20 seconds, with in-form Alex Pye giving hot pursuit in 1:29:31. Bourton’s first woman to finish was Rebecca Townsend who finished in 1:43:40, achieving a new PB by almost nine minutes.
Other Bourton runners included Tom Hitchman (1:41:06), Steve Howell (1:49:21), Megan Ratcliffe (1:53:50), Gilly Howell (1:55:24), Clemmie Bright (1:58:41), Basia Legierska (2:00:19), Liz Hulcup (2:05:23 and first LV70), Barry O'Leary (2:05:51) just managed to stay ahead of in-form Louise Hamilton-Smith (2:05:54), Louise Townsend (2:19:13), Allie Quinn ran with half marathon first-timer Giles Canning (both achieving a brilliant 2:26:55), and second-claim member Susan Hunt ran as one official race pacers (2:30:00).
Mayhill Massacre - 3rd February 2024
Also taking place this weekend was a series of trail and cross-country running events at Mayhill, near Huntley in Gloucestershire. Aptly named the Mayhill Massacre, comprising eight miles of tough cross country running, featuring tough climbs with very muddy trails thrown-in, you get the idea.
Bourton’s Kevin Goodwill ran in the “Canicross”, where runners were accompanied by their dogs, with Kevin achieving an amazing time of one hour, 19 minutes and 44 seconds and finishing fifth man. Kevin’s partner, Steph Lane, ran the main Mayhill Massacre event, stunning the competition by finishing in 1:07:00 and first woman.
