Fairford 10K - 9th June 2024
Bourton Roadrunners were out in force this weekend at the Fairford 10Km road race, organised by Cirencester-based club Running Somewhere Else (RSE). This annual race is timed to coincide with the Fairford Festival and is also part of the Gloucestershire AAA Road Race Series.
Leading the club home was in-form Alex Pye, achieving a fine time of 38 minutes and 25 seconds, managing to stay ahead of veteran runner Darren Long, who finished strongly in 39:29. Bourton’s first women was Niamh Shoemark, making it look easy, achieving 42:55 and winning the first lady vet-55 prize.
Other Bourton Roadrunners included Dougal Hamilton-Smith (43:21), Graham Lane (49:15), Lorna Shawcross (51:59), David Rees (52:16), Louise Hamilton-Smith (57:08), Imogen Cox (65:25), Sharon Rees (69:24), Julie Smith (72:33) in her first 10Km and Jenny Evanson (73:13). Also running was second-claim member Linda Edwards (57:40), who was representing the host club RSE.
Stroud Beer Race - 9th June 2024
Earlier the same week, Linda Edwards could also be found racing at the Stroud Beer Race, just over 7 undulating miles, around Minchinhampton Common, where she achieved 70 minutes and 11 seconds. Commenting afterwards Linda said “I don't even like beer!”
Settle Saunter 10K - 9th June 2024
Meanwhile, Ian Tolfts, who is no stranger to mountaineering and Munro Bagging, took-on the Settle Saunter; a 10Km event along footpaths and bridleways covering some of the quieter and lesser known parts of the Yorkshire Dales. Ian completed the challenging course in second place overall and first veteran in a time of 63 minutes and 55 seconds.
Mount Coot-Tha 12K Trail Run - 9th June 2024
Bourton’s Tom Hitchman tried his hand at his first trail race this weekend, choosing the Hightail Mount Coot-Tha 12Km, in Brisbane, Queensland Australia. Starting and finishes halfway up Mount Coot-Tha, along Scenic Drive and taking-in some of the most popular tracks on the mountain as well as the beautiful yet technical Eugenia circuit, with nearly 1500 feet of ascent.
Tom finished an impressive 35th from a field 145 seasoned trail runners in a time of one hour, 15 minutes and 20 seconds.

No weekend would be complete without a parkrun, and Bourton Roadrunners could be found this week at the following venues:

Dulwich: Eva Shoemark - 19:28 (SW20/1).
Evesham: Megan Ratcliff - 25:10 (VW55/1), Alex Wilson - 26:36.
Lydiard: Dougal Hamilton-Smith - 21:13 (JM15/1 and Course PB), Louise Hamilton-Smith - 29:44 (VW40/2 and course PB), Claire Carroll - 29:45,

Highlights
