Worcester 10Km - 18th May 2025
Three Bourton Roadrunners headed to Worcestershire this weekend, where the annual running festival was celebrating its 13th year. With the marathon and half marathon oversubscribed, the intrepid trio opted for the Worcester 10Km event also being hosted.
Lorna Shawcross finished in a time of 54 minutes and 2 seconds, and achieved second position in the FV/55 category. Also joining the field of 377 participants were Sharon and David Rees, who running together, finished in 71:10 and 71:11 respectively.
Compton 16 miles - 17th May 2025
A small group of Bourton Roadrunners travelled to Berkshire for the off-road Compton 16 miles, which ventures over the picturesque Berkshire Downs, following loops that criss-cross the ancient Ridgeway.
In-form Rebecca Townsend lead the team home in a time of two hours, 13 minutes and 57 seconds, finishing first Senior Lady and fourth woman overall. Steve and Gilly Howell ran together and both finished in 2:33:14, with Steve achieving MV60/3 and Gilly FV60/1. Claire and Iain Cox also ran and finished together in 2:43:25.
North Downs Way 50 - 17th May 2025
Danny Hannig took-on his first “real” ultra event at the North Downs Way 50, which he described as “such a grueling race … with lots of hills, up and down”. Despite the last few being a real struggle, he managed to keep going got it done in the end. Danny finished a brilliant 7th overall among 271 finishers and a further 35+ non-finishers, in a time of seven hours, 46 minutes and 57 seconds.
Great Ocean Road Half Marathon - 18th May 2025
Barry O’Leary took advantage of his presence in Australia’s state of Victoria, to run in the Great Ocean Road Half Marathon. Starting in the seaside town of Kennett River, the run takes in the iconic Great Ocean Road and the picturesque lush forests and coastlines to Apollo Bay.
Barry said that it was “Just stunning” but he was So pleased that he had switched to the half (which was 23Km rather than the usual 21.195Km). Barry finished in a very respectable one hour, 54 minutes and 53 seconds.
Parkrun - 17th May 2025
In addition to participation in the now established weekly parkrun schedule, a number of local running clubs were invited to assist in trialing the much-anticipated relaunch of the Fire Services College event at Moreton-in-Marsh this weekend. Bourton Roadrunners were proud to have members as part of that team. Whilst this week’s trail was not open to the general public, Stow-on-the-Wold fire officer Ian Shoemark, a member of Bourton Roadrunners, was pleased to finish third overall in a return to fitness.

Highlights
Bourton members were racing at Worcester 10Km, Compton 16, North Downs Way 50, and the Great Ocean Road Half.
After much speculation, it was pleasing to see the Fire Service College parkrun was trialed this weekend, and looks to be open to the public next weekend.
