Lightning Bolt 10k - 22nd June 2025
Bourton Roadrunners’ Eva Shoemark has finally broken through the 40-minute barrier at the Lightning Bolt 10k in Chippenham, finishing first senior woman in a time of 39 minutes and 53.7 seconds, and fourth female overall. Eva was just four seconds behind fellow club member Darren Long, who finished second in the MV50 category (39:49.6).
Eva’s parents were also representing Bourton Roadrunners in the race, with father Ian finishing in 42:24 and mother Niamh 43:16 (3rd FV50), rounding off a successful sporting weekend for the Shoemark family who saw son Kieran riding two winners at Royal Ascot, including Nobel Champion in the Jersey Stakes.
Greystones 10k Trail - 22nd June 2025
A large group of Bourton Roadrunners were also out in support of the Greystones 10k Trail run, in aid of the Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust. The field of 123 runners was led home by Bourton’s Peter Carrick in a very respectable time of 40 minutes and 10 seconds. Chasing all the way was in-form Kevin Goodwill finishing in 42:08.
Other Bourton runners included Maite Capper (48:02), Rebecca Townsend (48:41), Iain Cox (50:40), Maxine Emes (51:51), Ian Tolfts (55:11), Lucy Smith (55:26), Barry O’Leary (55:27), Claire Blackie (57:41), Steven Howell (58:11), Basia Legierska (58:13), Gillian Carrick (63:49), Gillian James (70:19), Imogen Cox (75:33), Janice Townsend (75:32), Jeanette Brew (78:22), Jo Cooper (90:35) and Alison Tighe (93:23).
Malvern Midsummer Marathon - 21st June 2025
Also taking place this weekend was the Malvern Midsummer Marathon, organised by the Heart of England Long Distance Walkers Association. Whilst not a race, many of its participants are runners and speed walkers. A few Bourton members were keen to support the event, which also offered shorter distance routes.
Steph and Gary Holton, Lee Smith and Linda Edwards all completed a grueling 16 miles with over 3300 feet of elevation, supported a by wider group of friends. They were also joined by veteran marathon runner Susan Hunt, who completed the full 27 miles with its 5000 feet of ascent, in a time 10 hours and 10 minutes.
Pittville Penguin Sportive - 22nd June 2025
Meanwhile, Graham Lane took part in the seventh annual Pittville Penguin Sportive, starting and finishing in Frampton-on- Severn, via villages by the Severn and across the old Severn Bridge into Wales, where they encountered a strong wind limiting their speed on the outward journey and across the bridge.
Graham joined a small select group of riders completing the 63 mile course in a little over 4 hours.
Parkrun - 21st June 2025
No weekend would be complete without parkrun, and this week the club was represented at the following venues:

Highlights
