Bourton One Mile Challenge - 18 July 2015

The annual Bourton One Mile Challenge this year hit maximum capacity of 200 runners for the first time. The race has grown in popularity every year and has now become a major fixture in the racing calendar as part of the Gloucestershire Road Race Series and a County Championship race.

The race had a clear winner in Graham Rush of Cheltenham & County Harriers in a time of 4 minutes and 26 seconds, backed up by a close run finish for team mates V/40 Anthony Bailey 2nd in 4:37 and last minute entrant James Millar 3rd in 4:38, who warmed up with a sprint to the start and Marc Fallows, 4th, who took first V/40 prize in 4:39.

Bourton’s on-form Ewen Smith finished 13th overall for first V/45, Nigel Tillott of Tewkesbury took 1st V/50 in 5:48, V/55Kevin Pye, all the way from Derbyshire, finished 65th in 5:30, Gordon Jones of Cirencester 1st V/60 in 6:05, Arthur Daley of Gloucester 1st V/65 in 5:55, Dave Spackman also of Gloucester 1st V/70 in 6:53, 1st U/20 Jacob Pickering of Cheltenham in 4:49, 1st U/15 Thomas Bury of Stroud & District AC 4:57.

In the Ladies Race, Kate Hulls had a fantastic run to finish 1st Lady and 11th overall in 4:53. Bourton's Shona Crombie-Hicks held off Holly Tugwell of Cirencester for 2nd and 3rd in 5:28 and 5:29. Georgina Emile of Angels RC took 1st LV/35 in 6:15, Bourton's Kate Krzywiec 1st LV/40 in 6:00, Amanda Martin for Tewkesbury 1st LV/45 in 6:22, Fiona Collings of Cirencester 1st LV/50 in 6:14, Alice Lewis of Dursley 1st LV/55 in 6:49, Ruth Fulford of Cirencester 1st LV/60 in 8:17, Sharon Smith of Running Somewhere Else 1st LV/65 in 7:08, Rachel See of Cheltenham & County Harriers 1st U/20 in 6:10 and Tia Williams of Banbury Harriers 1st U/15 in 5:34.

In the Gloucestershire County Championships the following received Gold, Silver and Bronze medals, as follows:

  • U/9s: Females: Abigail Barnett: Isobel Dennett.  Males: Malachy Jones; George Quli.
  • U/11s: Females: Emma Tillott; Isobell Barnett; Helena Jane West.  Males: Kan Ikeda; Louis Mutsaars; Christopher Hunt.
  • U/13s Females: Emily Field.
  • U/15s Females: Koumi Ikeda; Gabby Jones.  Males: Thomas Bury; Casey Fallows; Tom Keylock.
  • U/17s Males: Jacob Pickering; Callum Fallows; Jago Hartland
  • U/20s Females: Rachel See.  Males: Elliot Goodman.
  • Senior Ladies: Kate Hulls; Stephanie Lane; Amber Bullingham.  Senior Men: Graham Rush; James Millar; Mark James.
  • LV/35: Holly Tugwell; Georgine Emile; Kerry Lee Taylor.
  • MV/40: Anthony Bailey; Marc Fallows; Paul Lockyer.

A separate fun run race over the same course saw Matt Keylock, Unattached and Annabella Williams of Bourton Roadrunners cross the line for the first male and female trophies.

Highlights

49 Bourton Roadrunners seized the opportunity to race in front of a Home crowd, scooping 19 County medals, including 8 Golds.

200 runners helped raise over £500 for the Arthritis Trust; well done Norm and Ali Lane.
